Alternative medicine

The medicinal plant Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) has long been used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. An extract of this plant, Withaferin A (WA), has been tested in vitro and in vivo as a treatment for malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). The authors of these tests have concluded that their data "convincingly demonstrate that WA targets multiple pathways to suppress MPM growth in vitro and in vivo, and underscore its potential as a future anti-MPM therapy". Ashwagandha extracts are commercially manufactured and widely available.
